Tea Time Talk: “Driven by Life” With Matheus Almeida

This is the monthly live event, on the second Friday or Saturday of each month, as part of my Imperial Tutor mentorship. I either present a more formal lecture myself, followed by a lively discussion (what used to be called “History Train Lectures”), or I invite an important voice or two in Chinese medicine (practitioner of the East Asian healing arts, philosopher, anthropologist, historian, translator, author etc.) for a casual chat. While this is a members-only event, the general public can always join for a 9-day $9 trial to check it out.

For this month, I am meeting with Matheus Almeida, a practitioner in Brazil who truly walks his talk. In our conversation, he is hoping to explore a different approach to Chinese medicine, namely “as a game change of moving from a disease-driven perspective to a life-driven perspective. That is exactly how I work in my office, the way I teach in Brazil and how I lead my life based on CM knowledge. Also, that was the reason I got invited to be a member of the Prenatal Alliance NGO.” Read more about him and his work at this organization here: https://www.prenatalalliance.org/team.html

And here is how he describes himself:

One of my first steps “walking” from Brazil to China started when I was 14 years old and decided to practice Gongfu. How lucky was I when my first Shifu would not only teach me the Gongfu movements but also the philosophy behind those movements and how it was connected to the development of my character. When I turned 18 I started to learn Taiji Quan, Yang style. From that moment on all the conversations about yin-yang, observation of nature, wuxing … all of it became comfortable at a level that I enjoyed very much.

I went to a Physical Therapy graduation, and during that time one of my friends was talking about some chinese treatment called acupuncture, I didn’t really know what was that but I was attracted like a magnet to find out more of it. Once I graduated I started straight a post-graduation of Acupuncture. I fell in love. Three years later I became a specialist, was invited to lecture in the Brazilian School of Acupuncture and traveled to Beijing for acupuncture and qigong courses for graduated foreigners. Continuing my journey I graduated in Chinese Herbology and met great masters that presented me the classical medical texts. One of my dearest professors was Jean Marc Eyssalet, also need to mention Rochat de la Vallée, and Sabine Wilms.

Today I run a private office and I lecture as a guest teacher in some Brazilians schools of chinese medicine, as well I am a regular teacher in ANEP a Prenatal Education Association. Also I am a member of the Prenatal Alliance. Prenatal Alliance is a task force NGO, a get together of many countries driven by spreading the word of the relevance of the prenatal consciousness to create a world with people that will make the difference.
