Laozi on the “business of non-doing” (wuwei 無為) and the “teachings of non-speaking” (buyan 不言).

For the three of us, it has been an interesting conundrum all summer how to approach preparations for our upcoming retreat on the “Power of Yin” when all we have wanted to do is be silent and still. With all the doing each of us do in our busy lives, how do we conceptualize a Yin approach to this retreat to honor its spirit and intention, and still make it happen?

是以聖人處無為之事,行不言之教;萬物作焉而不辭,生而不有,為而不恃,功成而弗居。夫唯弗居,是以不去。

For this reason the sages engage in the business of non-action and carry out the teachings of non-speaking.
